There was a lot of talk in the Steelers’ locker room today about all the perceived low expectations for the team outside of the Steelers’ locker room.
Ike Taylor _ who else? _ had the most entertaining response.
“We can keep flying under the radar, man; it’s all good,” Taylor said. “It’s kinda good going stealth. I’ll guess we’ll see down the season what happens, if we’re
flying stealth or flying high.
“The frustration as far as a fan’s perspective, going 0-4 (in the preseason), yeah, I can kind of see that. Especially going 8-8 last year, (it’s) like ‘what’s really going on?’ But as far as what we have, what we think we have in this
locker room, we’re gonna be alright.
“We have a lot of good stuff going on. Whatever you want, we got, everything’s good. You go on the second floor (at the South Side practice facility) you see six shiny (Vince
Lombardi) trophies. You come down here (in the locker room), we got nothing but personalities. We got guys playing shuffle board, ping pong, everybody getting
ready for practice.
“Some guys taping, some guys coming from the cafeteria, some guys coming from the cold or hot tub. If you want nachos, man, we got nachos in the cafeteria. If you’re looking for fish or barbeque, we got that in the cafeteria. We got everything going on.”
All of that stuff may or may not work in the Steelers’ favor when they meet Tennessee on Sunday in the regular-season opener.
And Taylor, entering his 11th NFL season, knows it’ll take more than all of the above against the Titans and beyond this season.
But he’s ready to find out for certain if the Steelers have what it takes.
“Just anxious, real anxious,” Taylor said. “I’m ready to be productive, ready to play some football, ready to get out there with 11 guys, ready to have fun.”
