UPDATE: PA Turnpike Reopens After Fatal Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles

UPDATE 6:20pm: All lanes of the PA Turnpike are now reopened both EB and WB.

According to WPXI, first responders were calling it a “mass casualty incident.” Emergency crews said five people were killed and roughly 60 people were taken to area hospitals with injuries.

The NTSB is investigating the crash and will have more details soon.

Update: 4:30pm: The EASTBOUND detour at the New Stanton Interchange, Exit #75 has been lifted, all lanes open. Westbound closure remains.

UPDATE 10:47am: Motorists intending to travel EASTBOUND on the PA Turnpike are permitted to enter at the Donegal Exit #91, Somerset Exit #110 and the Bedford Exit #146 and travel east. Accident scene is EB prior to the Donegal exit.

Original Story: Both directions of the PA Turnpike are closed from the New Stanton Exit to the Breezewood Exit due to a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles early Sunday morning.

According to WPXI, three tractor trailers, a tour bus and a car were involved in the crash that happened around 3:30am near mile marker 86 westbound. They are also reporting that emergency crews said five people were killed and roughly 60 people were taken to area hospitals with injuries.
